Pluto Time is a conceptual 24-hour clock for the dwarf planet Pluto. Because Pluto rotates much slower than Earth, a single day on Pluto lasts about 6.39 Earth days. To map this to a familiar 24-hour format, scientists and educators divide Pluto’s rotation period (153.3 Earth hours) by 24. This means one “Pluto Hour” is equal to about 6.39 Earth hours. By dividing the current Earth time by 6.39, you can find out what time it would be on a 24-hour Pluto clock.
A single day on Pluto (one full rotation on its axis) takes approximately 6.387 Earth days, or about 153 hours and 17 minutes. This means a day on Pluto is more than six times longer than a day on Earth. Because of this slow rotation, the “day” and “night” cycles on Pluto last for over three Earth days each.
A year on Pluto (one full orbit around the Sun) takes about 247.94 Earth years. Since its discovery in 1930, Pluto has not yet completed a single full orbit around the Sun. It will complete its first observed orbit in March 2178. If you are 30 years old on Earth, you would only be about 0.12 years old on Pluto.
